Analytics and cookie choices

Plausible counts every visit without cookies. It may receive browser and device information and a referring page.

Google Analytics is run by Google, which receives the page address, the actions we measure on this site and browser and device information, and sets cookies that tell repeat visits apart. Its advertising features are off.

In the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and whenever we cannot tell which country a visit comes from, Google Analytics loads only after you choose Accept on the bar at the bottom of the page. Decline loads nothing from Google. Your choice is kept in this browser for six months, then the bar asks again.

Elsewhere, Google Analytics loads with each page unless you choose Decline. Cloudflare, which delivers our pages, tells your browser which country the visit comes from.

Wherever you are, Cookie choices at the bottom of any page, or the button below, changes your choice. Decline stops Google Analytics on this site in this browser and deletes its analytics cookies. If analytics was running, the page reloads to apply your choice. Decline holds on every page; outside the countries above it is kept until you change it.

The five custom interactions send only allowlisted controlled context. They do not include a merchant or destination URL, contact-form values, exact calculator inputs, exact prices or totals, free text, account identifiers, persistent visitor identifiers or advertising identifiers. A click on a link to a vendor's site sends one more event to both services. It carries the vendor's domain (wasabi.com, for example, never the full link), whether the link earns this site money (none does: the site has no affiliate links), the kind of link (a price page, for example), the kind of page and the part of it the link sits in, and the page's language. Plausible also receives the page address and the referrer, as it does for a page view, so a calculator address shared with your numbers in it arrives with its query string. Google Analytics receives the page's address without its query string and no referrer. Moving between pages of this site is not counted as a vendor click. Personal data is not sold.

Cookie choices

Information you provide

You do not need to create an account, provide a name or enter an email address to use the public comparison and data pages. Calculator values are used in the browser to render the result; analytics receives only the allowlisted field name and a broad value class after a successful committed change, never the exact value or bill.

If the homepage offers Save the bill shown and you choose it, one saved bill, its calculator workload and its source dates are stored in this browser's localStorage. Those exact inputs and figures remain on this device, are never sent to Backup Storage Prices, and are available only to this browser profile. When the full saving controls are available, Reopen saved bill shows that saved bill unchanged and separately fetches the latest published calculator checked price data available on the site for comparison; it does not continuously monitor vendor pages. A clear-only deployment keeps removal available but does not automatically delete the local copy. Clear saved bill removes it; clearing this site's browser data also removes it. The optional calendar reminder, when available, contains only a generic recheck title and the public homepage link; it contains no workload, provider, price, total or receipt identifier.

The contact form sends the fields you choose through a Cloudflare Worker and Turnstile security check to a private operator channel. Use it for corrections and privacy questions, and do not include storage credentials, account keys, invoices, or other secrets.

Ordinary hosting infrastructure may process request metadata needed to deliver and protect the site. This policy does not claim that technical server logs never exist. Backup Storage Prices does not use such metadata to build visitor profiles.

Links to vendor sources

Price figures link to vendor documentation so a reader can check the evidence. Opening one of those links sends your browser to a site operated by that vendor, and the destination's privacy policy applies to that visit.

A source link shows where a claim came from; it is not an instruction to create an account. Review the destination URL before leaving Backup Storage Prices, especially when a vendor page redirects by region.

Privacy questions

Use the contact form for privacy questions. State the page or interaction involved and avoid submitting credentials or private billing records.

If this policy changes because the site's data collection changes, the updated date on this page changes with it. The policy should describe the running site, not a planned analytics setup.
