The $5 Spaces account subscription is separate from both classes. Standard includes 250 GiB and then costs $0.02 per additional GiB-month; Cold costs $0.007 per GiB-month. Both share the 1,024 GiB outbound allowance and $0.01 per additional GiB. [1]
Cold retrieval costs $0.01 per GiB after a monthly allowance equal to your average daily Cold storage. DigitalOcean charges no request fees on Spaces, and Cold objects are read directly, with no restore step or temporary copy, so a Cold restore has a full price. [1] [2] [3]

Spaces Cold break-even against Standard
Cold costs less to keep than Standard once you store more than about 385 GiB: Standard's first 250 GiB come with the $5 subscription, and above that each GiB costs $0.02 a month in Standard against $0.007 in Cold. Reading Cold data is free up to the amount you store each month and $0.01 a GiB beyond it, so at 10 TB Cold stays the cheaper class until you read back about 2.2 times what you store in a month. Downloads cost the same from both, and Cold bills every object for at least 30 days and 128 KiB, so small or short-lived files narrow the gap. [1]
Reading Cold data does not delete, overwrite, move, or transition the source, so early deletion does not apply to a read-only restore. A Cold restore pays retrieval beyond the allowance and downloads beyond the shared 1,024 GiB; there is no request charge and no temporary copy. [1] [2] [3]

DigitalOcean's Spaces pricing documentation, read again on 12 October 2026, publishes Cold retrieval at $0.01 per GiB after an allowance tied to average daily Cold usage, applies the 1,024 GiB outbound allowance and $0.01 per GiB overage to both classes, and bills a 128 KiB minimum per stored object and per read. [1]
Our price table holds those prices and rules, the 30-day prorated early-deletion rule with its first 250 GiB a month free, and free requests from DigitalOcean's own Spaces comparison, which says the flat rate includes unlimited uploads and API requests. [1] [2]
