A storage class is a billing contract, not a label

A storage class is a per-object service tier with its own access behavior and billing contract. The 61-offer dataset contains 50 distinct provider and class combinations, so one provider name cannot safely stand in for one price or one restore path.

Put your own numbers through the calculator to see what this meter does to a normal month and to the day you restore.

A storage class is a per-object service tier

A storage class is a tier that attaches a specific access and billing contract to an object. Classes can differ in storage rate, retrieval, request prices, minimum duration, object-size treatment, latency, temporary-copy behavior, durability design, and location scope. [1] [2] [6]

Storage class is not a universal performance grade. Standard, Hot, Cool, Cold, Nearline, Infrequent Access, Glacier, and Archive are vendor names whose actual rules must be read from the selected provider, region, and offer. [1] [4] [7]

Which offer?Provider, product, class, and region [1] [4]The same class label can have different prices or availability by region[1] [4]
How is it read?Online read, restore request, rehydration, or temporary copy [3] [5]The restore path changes time and bill lines[3] [5]
How long is it committed?Minimum storage duration and early-deletion method [2] [6]A mutation before the class clock expires can charge the unused remainder[2] [6]
What does a read trigger?Retrieval, read requests, temporary-copy storage, and egress where applicable [2] [3]A read-only restore does not trigger early deletion[2] [3]

The captured class map differs across all 18 vendors

The dataset contains 61 regional offer records and 50 distinct provider and class IDs after duplicate regional records are collapsed. The table copies class names from the dataset and does not infer an unlisted tier. [8]

A single captured class means only that the dataset contains one class for that vendor. It does not prove that no other product exists outside the capture. A stale class generation remains labeled stale instead of being silently replaced. [8] [26]

Choose the class from the full normal-month and recovery-month contract

A lower storage line does not establish the cheaper recovery. The selected class also determines retrieval, request classes, minimum duration, object floors, latency, temporary-copy storage, and whether the offer is eligible for the required region and features. [2] [12]

The three egress shapes below remain separate from class selection. A read-only restore may add retrieval, requests, temporary-copy storage, and egress. Early deletion is not one of them: does not apply, unless the workflow separately deletes, overwrites, moves, or transitions the source before its class minimum. [30] [12] [14] [3]

Every figure above comes from one of these pages, on the date shown. Each numbered reference in the text links to its entry here. Vendors change prices; if a date looks old, check the source. Three vendors publish a machine-readable feed and the rest are re-checked by hand, which is why the dates are not uniform.
