Reading data is the charge for reading what is stored, billed on top of any download charge. Downloads: the first 10.2 TB of downloads free each month. Deleting an object before its minimum storage period ends still bills the remaining time.

When Oracle OCI Object Storage does not save you money
Oracle OCI Object Storage costs more than most vendors in both months for a 2 TB NAS offsite copy, a 10 TB backup repository and a 5 TB photo archive. The widest gap is a 10 TB backup repository, the month you restore all of it: $203.01 at Oracle OCI Object Storage against $55.83 at Telnyx Cloud Storage (Regular Storage). It is the cheapest of all in the month you restore for a 100 TB compliance archive. Oracle OCI Object Storage Archive would cost less in both months for a 2 TB NAS offsite copy, a 5 TB photo archive and 1 TB of app files with public downloads ($4.97 for a 2 TB NAS offsite copy, a normal month) but is left out of these places, because we have no ready time from Oracle OCI Object Storage to check against the limit each of those backups sets for data to be ready.

Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive: each file must be restored before you can download it, which takes up to 12 hours, and Amazon S3 bills each file for at least 180 days.
Oracle OCI Object Storage Archive: each file must be restored before you can download it (Oracle says the first byte comes back within an hour, but not when the whole file is ready), and Oracle bills each file for at least 90 days.

Questions buyers ask about Oracle OCI Object Storage
What happens if I remove OCI cold data early?
Infrequent Access has a 31-day minimum and Archive 90 days. Actual early removal can bill the prorated remainder. A read-only restore cannot. With versioning, a logical overwrite that retains the old version can postpone the early-deletion event until the data is actually removed.
What is the minimum monthly OCI Object Storage bill?
Oracle publishes no fixed monthly fee or minimum billable capacity for these offers. Each class includes the first 10 GB of storage, but retrieval, requests, temporary restored-copy storage, and egress use their own allowances and rules.
Can I use OCI as an immutable backup target?
OCI has native time-bound and indefinite retention rules, but they are not comparable to the S3 Object Lock API. A rule can be irreversibly locked after a mandatory 14-day delay. Retention rules and object versioning are mutually exclusive, and the checked docs do not name an immutable-backup application.
Do these OCI prices apply in every region?
Oracle says its prices do: OCI charges the same price for a service in every region, including government regions. Object Storage is still a regional service, so your data lives in the region you choose. Our figures come from the US Ashburn offers only, so check that the classes you need are offered in your region, and the currency and tax you will be billed in, before relying on these totals.
