Region is an eligibility rule before it is a price input. Only three vendors have matched US and EU records in the dataset, many regional deltas remain not published, and a location hint is not the same promise as a jurisdiction restriction.

A vendor without the required region is ineligible, not expensive
The dataset contains both a US and an EU priced record for only Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Telnyx Cloud Storage. Those are the only vendors for which this explainer calculates a US-to-EU price delta. Every other regional delta stays not published unless the dataset itself contains a matching regional pair. Hetzner Object Storage is available only in Falkenstein and Nuremberg, Germany, and Helsinki, Finland. It has no US Object Storage region, so it is ineligible for a US-region comparison rather than a high-priced US option. Hetzner also states that an entire bucket is stored in the selected location and in one data center there. [6]

Only three vendors support a sourced US-to-EU price calculation
The table compares like-for-like classes and the first published storage band in the two captured regions. A positive percentage means the EU record costs more; a negative percentage means it costs less. The calculation does not imply that either region wins after retrieval, requests, free allowances, and egress are added. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
For the captured AWS classes, internet egress has the same 100 GB monthly allowance and $0.09 per GB first paid band in both regions. Azure also has the same captured 100 GB allowance and $0.087 per GB first paid band, but Archive retrieval and request rates are higher in West Europe. Telnyx charges no retrieval or internet egress in either captured region, but its EU storage and operation rates are materially higher. [8] [10] [3] [4] [5] [11]

Region catalogs and residency controls cover the first half of the registry
A sold-from list answers availability. A residency control answers where object data is committed to remain. The two fields differ for services that use best-effort hints, globally distributed placement, optional CDNs, or a cold tier hosted somewhere other than the bucket's nominal region. [7] [28] [32]
Regional price state below is constrained to the provider dataset. A vendor can advertise many locations while its regional price delta remains not published because the dataset contains only one priced location. [18] [23] [25]

The remaining vendors range from one data center to global placement
Single-region services can provide a narrow residency boundary but may require the buyer to build a second-region copy for disaster recovery. Global-by-default services solve a different availability problem and must expose an explicit placement control before they can satisfy a hard jurisdiction requirement. [42] [46] [52]
A region selector also does not authorize a rate copy. OVHcloud has two EU locations in the dataset but no matching class across them, and Akamai's attached pricing source names regional exceptions that are not represented as priced regional records. Those comparisons remain not comparable and not published, respectively. [37] [40]

Residency filters the offers, then egress decides the recovery bill
A regional storage rate is only one line of a recovery receipt. Backblaze, Cloudflare, and Wasabi illustrate three different egress shapes: a proportional allowance with a published overage, no internet-egress charge with paid operations, and a fair-use policy whose excess price is not published. A read-only restore can add retrieval, requests, temporary-copy storage, and egress. It never triggers early deletion by itself because it does not delete, overwrite, move, or transition the source object. [8] [9]

Missing regional records remain visible
The region catalog is broader than the price dataset. That is expected, but it prevents a numeric regional comparison for most vendors. The correct output is not published or not comparable, not a copied rate. [40] [37] [58]
One checked source materially disagrees with the dataset: Storj's current documentation presents Global Collaboration, US Regional Workflows, and Active Archive prices that do not match the dataset's single Standard record. The Storj row is stale until the provider dataset is reconciled. [45] [47]
