Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive: each file must be restored before you can download it, which takes up to 12 hours, and Amazon S3 bills each file for at least 180 days.

Oracle OCI Object Storage Archive: each file must be restored before you can download it (Oracle says the first byte comes back within an hour, but not when the whole file is ready), and Oracle bills each file for at least 90 days.

Head to head: Storj against Backblaze B2, IDrive e2, Wasabi, DigitalOcean Spaces, Filebase, Hetzner Object Storage and Vultr Object Storage, both bills on the same backups.

Questions buyers ask about Storj

How are small objects billed on Storj?

Every object is billed as at least 50 KB. Repository structure can therefore make billable storage much larger than logical payload when it creates many small objects.

What happens if I delete or overwrite Storj data before 30 days?

Storj Standard has a 30-day minimum: deleting or overwriting an object before day 30 bills the days left, prorated. A read-only recovery does not trigger that charge. Storj publishes a separate Object Mount exemption with its own plan conditions.

Can I use Storj as an immutable backup target?

Yes, conditionally. Storj documents S3-compatible Object Lock with governance, compliance, defaults, and legal hold, and states that it has Veeam Ready Object with Immutability certification. The checked guide does not publish a numeric maximum retention or a separate versioning prerequisite.
