On Google Cloud Storage Standard, 10 TB of backups cost $4,589.35 a year with one full restore. All 17 other vendors we price cost less. The cheapest, OVHcloud Object Storage Infrequent Access, costs $576.40, $4,012.95 less. Moving the 10 TB there costs $1,295.51 once, and the saving pays it back in 4 months.
Before you leave, look at Google Cloud Storage's own cheaper class. Google Cloud Storage Coldline costs $3,534.33 a year for the same 10 TB, $1,055.02 less than Standard, and moving to it needs no download: a lifecycle rule changes the class inside Google Cloud Storage. Its minimum stay is 90 days, so it suits backups kept at least that long. OVHcloud Object Storage Infrequent Access still costs $2,957.93 a year less than that.

What leaving Google Cloud Storage costs, line by line
Moving 10 TB, a year old, from Google Cloud Storage Standard to OVHcloud Object Storage Infrequent Access:
- Reading and downloading it from Google Cloud Storage, every request and fee: $1,105.99 (first 100 GB downloaded free each month).
- Deleting files before their minimum stay at Google Cloud Storage is up: nothing.
- The delete requests: nothing.
- A month with both copies, while you check the new one: $189.52 at Google Cloud Storage.
- Uploading it at OVHcloud Object Storage: nothing.
The download takes about 22 hours at 1,000 Mbps with the line at full speed, longer in practice. What you could lose by leaving
What Google Cloud Storage Standard gives you now: downloads, first 100 GB downloaded free each month; locking the backups, compliance and governance. 11 of the 17 alternatives can also keep backups under a lock nobody can lift; the rest cannot, or do not document it. Check that your backup program can write to the new vendor before you move: backup programs, priced at every vendor.

How the bills are worked out
Each bill comes from the vendor's own published rates through the same engine as the calculator, checked on the date in its row. The example is 10 TB in 1,000,000 files; the year is 11 months with 1 TB downloaded, 500,000 uploads and 2,000,000 reads, and one month in which you download all 10 TB. The move is priced by the same planner as the migration cost page, with the data a year old and both copies kept a month. The payback is the one-off cost divided by the monthly share of the yearly saving. Free tiers you have to sign up or qualify for are left out; allowances every account gets, such as the first 100 GB downloaded each month at AWS and Azure, are counted.
